About Ledgerlyfin
An independent site publishing free finance calculators with the formulas shown, not hidden.
What this site is
Ledgerlyfin publishes twelve personal finance calculators covering investing, borrowing, and long-range planning. Every one of them is free, requires no sign-up, and collects nothing from you — all calculations run in your browser and no figure you enter is transmitted anywhere.
Why it exists
Most finance calculators online give you a number and nothing else. You cannot see the formula, you cannot tell what assumptions were made, and you have no way of knowing what the calculation quietly excludes. That last part matters most: a SIP projection that ignores expense ratios, or an EMI figure that omits processing fees, is not wrong so much as incomplete in a way that flatters the result.
Every page here does three things differently. It states the formula being used. It works through a numbered example so you can verify the output. And it sets out explicitly what the calculation leaves out, so you know where the projection ends and reality begins.
How the calculators work
The maths follows standard financial conventions. SIP and RD projections use the future value of an annuity due. Fixed deposits compound quarterly, matching the practice at most Indian banks. EMI and mortgage payments use the standard amortisation formula that every lender applies. Compound interest compounds monthly. Where a convention could reasonably go either way, the page says which one was chosen.
Editorial approach
The written content on each page is original, researched, and reviewed before publication. Where a figure is contested — the safe withdrawal rate for retirement being the clearest example — the page presents the disagreement rather than picking a side and presenting it as settled. Where a rule of thumb has limits, those limits are stated.
We do not sell financial products, accept payment for recommendations, or receive commission from banks, lenders, or fund houses. The site is supported by display advertising, which has no bearing on what the calculators show or what the articles say.
Accuracy and corrections
Calculations are checked against published formulas and against the figures produced by banks and fund platforms for identical inputs. Tax rules, interest rates, and regulatory thresholds change, and content is reviewed periodically against current rules. If you find an error in a calculation or an explanation, please get in touch — corrections are made promptly and we would rather hear about a mistake than leave it standing.
An important limitation
Ledgerlyfin is an educational resource. Nothing here is personalised financial advice, and no calculator can account for your full circumstances, tax position, existing commitments, or risk tolerance. For decisions of consequence, speak to a qualified professional who can see the whole picture.
